22th day : Fashionably.. late

November 1st 2012

Just like the other poor time management time, I was late to my work placement, because I missed the bus.

After I work, I got back home and doing some laundry while getting ready to go to Pier 21, because we have our volunteering activity there, to help the Time raiser auction. I was very late to come to Pier 21, because I missed the bus. Second, there was an accident, so there was a 40 minutes traffic jam and then I missed the connecting bus from downtown to pier 21.

So that’s why I came really late, good thing that the event has not started yet, so I still volunteered there. Anyway, I met a nice old man in the bus, I asked him how to get to pier 21, and I asked a lot. He offered his help because I brought my map, and I looked confused.

When I arrived in Scotia Square, one of the busiest bus stops in town, I asked people how to get to Pier 21 by bus. There was a friendly old couple that shows me which bus to take. I was desperately need to pee that time, so when the bus number 8 came, I was hurried to get in.

Surprisingly, it was me, the only passenger that took the bus. The bus driver asked me couple of question, and we talked a lot. The friendly bus driver stopped the bus and I said thank you and ran quickly to pier 21. The first thing that I did when I arrived at Pier 21 was, asking the receptionist, “Excuse me, can you show me where is the washroom?”.

We volunteered in Time raiser auction, so there were a lot of beautiful paintings by some famous artist, and people bid it with time—volunteering time, not by money. The maximum time bid is 40 hours of volunteering in some organization, one of the organization is Ecology Action Center, Reid and Dima’s work placement.

Dun dun dun, these are our volunteering  picture.

21th day : Halloween!

October 31st 2012

Well, I have to admit it, that I forgot to write about this day in my journal. I skipped it! Because I don’t remember that October has one more day, not only thirty days. Well, good thing I have so many pictures that was taken in this day. So, I will just post the pictures of these ghosts, Halifax-Depok Team dressed up! Party hard, and let’s eat pizza!

I walked back from my work placement with Ariane, to her host family’s house. Yeniffer, (my counterpart), and Dhila, (Ariane’s counterpart) were also working partners, so we meet up to dress up and use make up together, and walked together to our party location. Before we left, we took a picture with Thomas, Dhila and Ariane’s host parent.

20th day : I started to love my job

October 30th 2012

Woke up late, missed the bus, and came late to my work placement.
In the bus, I met Reid, and one of the resident that stayed at Adsum House. Reid teased me, he said I might be get fired because I will come late, and I said that I am a volunteer, they will not fire me. I was surprised by Reid’s respond, he said, “If I were you, I will be glad if they fire me, so I don’t have to work again, haha!”

Just the typical day at my work placement, sorting donations, assisting with food preparation and stuff, talked more with my work partner, and I think, “Hey, I started to love this work placement”

I walked back home, note it, walked. For about an hour in a very cold weather. When I got back home, my host mother, Evelyn asked me, what happened with us (Yen and I) yesterday, because she noticed that there’s something wrong with us. I explained that it was the missed communication problem and a clash of our EAD topic. She understood, and she’s a good listener.

We had pita pizza for dinner, and then Rob, Yen and I made a cat face on the pumpkin, for Halloween. Here’s our terrified cat!

19th day : A hard day. Our first fight, dear counterpart.

October 29th 2012

We had another EAD, presented by Tika and Daphne, about the Food processing. We had a very ineresting Team Building games, we had to make a letter from our body. Can you tell what's the letter?

We also met one of the supervisor of Canada-Ghana youth exchange program. She’s really inspiring. She encourage us to make our cookbook of Indonesian and Canadian recipe to be sell as the fundraising effort. We did.

That day, after the EAD, I had my first fight with my counterpart, Yeniffer. It was because of me, and the communication problem. I did not know what did Yen planned about our EAD, I catch the wrong point. So it was a clash about our EAD topic, because next week is our turn to present the Education Activity Day.

We had dinner, and after that we went to our own room, without talking much. Sad.
