5th day of Canadian Phase : This is what we called EAD

15 October 2012

I woke up too early because of the wrong alarm. The alarm was Adzan, the reminder to pray that I installed in my smart phone. It was 3:40 am, while the real adzan for subuh prayer is around 6 am. I usually get mad if something wake me up, but I was not mad that time. I felt something warm in my heart, it is hard to describe it into words, just heard Adzan, made me think that my God's word is powerful. The Adzan from my phone was quiet loud, so I was uncomfortable if it made other people in the house disturbed, or woken up. I  continue my sleep and woke up in the right time to pray subuh.

That day, Brad and Wilma, our project supervisor explained to us about Education Activity Day (EAD) and gave us the simulation of the EAD. It was about LGBTQ, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. I  gained a lot of knowledge from the EAD.

Then we practiced a little bit Saman dance movement.

I had lamb for dinner, it was the first time I had lamb, since I only watch those chef cooked lamb in TV shows. After we had dinner, I taught Yen a few Saman dance movement before I went to bed.

I do not have a lot of picture to show you guys about my activity that day.

4th day of Canadian Phase : First Tim Hortons Experience

14 October 2012

Sunday morning, my host mother invited Yen and I to go to the gym. That was my first experience to exercise in a gym, and my first experience was in Canada, I often thinks that was so wonderful. I did treadmill exercise, stretching, stomach and hand muscle workout. The gym was specially for women, even more interesting!

When we went back home, I remember Evelyn, my host mum made an apple pie, but, because there was lard in the pie, which is made from p-i-g, so I cannot eat the pie. Fortunately, my kind host mum made me some Apple Crisp, which taste good. She also made us some grilled cheese, the dish that I knew from The Sims 3 video game, hehehe.

That afternoon, Yen, Ariane, Kayla, Dima, Dhila and I (what I called as Downtown Girls) did a little exploration. we went to the closest shopping centre in our area. We walked, and I took some pictures in front of cute houses. lol.
"Be careful when you cross the street, Girls!"

We went to the shopping centre, and we also had our first Tim Hortons Experience! Yeaay! French Vanilla!

We also went to Winners, Walmart, and McDonald, but we just hanging out without purchasing any stuff.

It was Sunday. Every Sunday, my host family have a tradition, called Sunday Supper. So, James's cousins (Rob and Eve's niece and nephew) will come to the house and had dinner together. There were James (the First time I met my host brother), Beth (James girl friend, well now she's James's ex), Becky (James's cousin), Jacob (Becky's bf), and Megan (Becky's sister). The Sunday supper was lovely, because the food was delicious and the people was nice.

How I miss Sunday Supper :)

3rd day of Canadian Phase : visited beautiful places with my host family

October 13th 2012
Finally, I ate my first Indomie. I really miss the taste of Asian noodle, oh gosh. So I ate Indomie for my breakfast, what an unhealthy lifestyle, eh?

Saturday morning, the best time to spend with your host family. Rob, (Robert MacDonald), my host father took Yen and I to Farmer’s Market, Halifax. The market was incredible! It was clean, convenience, and comfortable. Love it! I Imagine the market that I watched in every Disney’s fairy tale, it looks almost like that, the difference is the clothes that people wear, they did not wear any gown with laces or any eighteen’s century clothes. In Farmer’s market, we also met the other participants, Tika and Daphne and their host family, Faisal and Terry and Tom, their host father.

I bought those cute pens, for my half brothers and my lil cousins.

Before we went home, we stopped by the coast, near Point Pleasant Park, and took some pictures.

We went back home, and I had fried rice (I made it, but it doesnt taste good tho) and samosa for lunch.
That day, my host family brought us to a nice places, Apple’s Valley to pick apples and pumpkin for Halloween.

In the middle of picking pumpkin I was desperate to pee. The owner showed me the portable toilet, and I was shocked. Just imagine, I used the portable public toilet, for the first time. Oh well, of course I don’t have any picture for this horrible experience, lol.

We continued our trip to Look Off, the high point where people can see almost all reachable view of Nova Scotia. Sight seeing was fun.

Kingsport, Nova Scotia. It is the unique places when the ocean water could reach the edge of the beach in certain period of time, and then it shrink in other period of time. That’s one of my host father’s favorite place.

We went home, had dinner, and I wrote my journal. I did not go to the Nocturne Festival, the art festival, because I was too tired, and that night was cold. Some of my friend went to Nocturne Festival, they also took great pictures. Well, just remember, even you are in the same group and in the same community, doesnt mean that you will have the same experiences!

Xoxo Haligonians.
