2012
The same day, a year ago.
I woke up in the morning, freezing, even if the heater is turned on. The first
thing that is appeared in my mind is, wow, I am in Canada now.
I sat on the edge of the
bed, saw one of my friend already woke up, and the two other were still under
the blanket, freezing cold. I drank a glass of water, and peek behind the
curtain, and saw my first morning scenery of Halifax, the parking lot and the
trees. I smiled and told myself that, “Hey, this is gonna be a great adventure”.
After a quick-freezing cold shower, we went to have breakfast, sort of tasteless, because Asian food, especially Indonesian food that I usually ate is spicy and rich, so I had a sunny side egg, and some toast. I remember the first Canadian participant that I know is Katrina, the girl in Truro-Sei Go Hong team, I greeted her before I walked to my table. Some of my friend already mingle with the Canadian participants, while I felt a little bit overwhelmed, and just sat next to some Indonesian girls.
those boys looks excited :D
After we had breakfast, we went back to our room and pack things, getting ready to pick the rest of the Canadians in the airport :)
We are heading to airport, yeeaaay!
and we met those Canadian participants. Don't judge a book by it's cover, first impression might be wrong :p
hello, nice to meet you!
while waiting, we taught them Saman dance, a traditional dance from Aceh, Indonesia.
and performed the dance.
this is Halifax-Depok team, Daph is missing, lol.
all the participants :)
then we went to Tatamagouche, by bus, for the first day of Volunteer Orientation Camp (VOC)
adventure await!
When we arrived in Tatamagouche, we were given our house and our roommate, my roommate is Emma Walker, she is great in taking pictures! Dima, Bea, Feby, Ona, Daphne, Fanny, Doris, Emma, Sarah and me had Stevens House.
the house is quiet close to the hall, and it was pretty good house.
For the rest of the day, we had sessions in the main hall, got introduced to Canada World Youth, toured around Tatamagouche centre, the hall, the kitchen, the dorm and so on. we had our first supper, which was chili and bread, most of the Indonesian agreed that the dish wasn't tasty, but I pretty enjoyed it. I do not really remembered what I did for the rest of the day, it could be some sessions with smaller group, and it might be just free time, to rest, cause some of Indonesian were having a great jetlag, including Visya Saptiana :)
