October 17th 2012,
Since we arrived in Halifax, it was the
first day of our COW or Community Orientation Week, in Bahasa Indonesia, we
call it, MOS ama lingkungan baru.
That day, Yen and I went to our EAD
space, and our supervisor presented the description about each work placement.
We chose two best work placement that we prefer, and the supervisor will
consider which one is the best for us. I think I chose the Elementary School
and Nova Scotia Coral Federation. Well, none of them is my work placement. Lol.
Then we practiced some movement of Saman
Dance, some of the Canadian were complaining about how painful their knee was,
because of Saman Dance’s sitting position.
We also went to make our own “Spectrum
Passport” in Zines Places, called Anchor Archieve, Halifax. It was a
cute-overwhelming place, it’s a house, filled with art archieve, such as
scrapbook, indie magazines, posters, booklet, and so on. The Zine Place reminds
me of my childhood bedroom, because it was filled with posters, magazines,
scrapbook, and some handmade decorations.
So each of us had to design a page for
our Spectrum Passport. My task was designing the page of Skills and Knowledge.
Daphne, the most artistic girl in the team made the cover of our spectrum
passport.
Before we dismissed our session that
day, Brad and Wilma, our supervisors announced our work partner and our work
placement. I got Ariane Michaud as my work partner, and we will volunteering at
the Adsum House, a shelter for homeless women and children. Well, the first
thing that popped out in my mind was, “Ok, I did not get the work placement
that I want, and I don’t know what will I face in this work placement, but
well, I am sure my work partner will help me, because she’s older than me and I
believe that she’s the cool person to hang out with”
On the way home after we went to Zine
Place, Yen and I stopped at Wendy's to have a delicious-salty french fries in the
kids meal. We went home, had dinner, and sleep, getting ready for tomorrow, the
first day of Volunteering.
